Dear Grace...

There’s so much prejudice in my school. I don’t know what to do when they make fun of the country I come from. Can you help me?

Sammy

Dear Sammy,

I know those words by the others hurt you. But what I want you to stop and recognize is that our sins hurt God, too; that my hard heart and my unwillingness to forgive do much damage to others. If God, in Christ, forgave me all the sins—all of them from my whole life—then certainly He will strengthen me to forgive others their sins, too. (Like Jesus did on the cross - “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). Who am I to accept such massive forgiveness and then turn around and hold a grudge? That would be so unfair, not at all what God would have me do.

So even though you are aching—take that ache to our Father. Read a few Psalms. Release the pain into His hands. And let Him settle things in His timing and in His way. You know that His greatest wish is for those who hurt you to find healing in His son as well, right?

Pray for that. Entrust your bruised heart to Him. And let it go…as He gives you strength.

In Him,

Grace
