Why am I so afraid of disappointing people? I worry and worry about this.
God loved you so very much that He sent His son to die for you! He has given you talents and gifts that are uniquely yours. When you believe this, you have security. Then your self-confidence is not what others think of you, but what God thinks of you. He made you, shaped you from the moment of being in your mother's womb (Psalm 139:13-14). Therefore He thinks you are great! “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save, He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
Not one of us is perfect but each of us can try his or her best. We can never please everybody all the time. The expectations of others may seem unreasonable or unattainable. Know your strengths. Accept your weaknesses. Then strive to do your best.
“Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Colossians 3:17).
Worry drains you of today’s energy. And worry does not always give you positive results. It can cause health problems like ulcers, stress, high blood pressure and many others. When we worry, we don’t trust. Read what Jesus said: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…” (Matthew 6:25-32).
The God of the universe, the God who holds all things in His hands, tells you not to worry but to trust. He thinks more of you than anything else He has created. He will walk beside you each day. He will help you and give you strength. He is always on your side. So who can harm you? No one. Embrace your heavenly Father. Tell Him of your struggles.
Then open your hands, mind and heart to receive His peace.
