You Shall Have No Other Gods

Deuteronomy 5:7:            You shall have no other gods.
Small catechism:              We are to fear, love and trust God above everything else.

What kinds of gods do people worship today?

The First Commandment calls us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Every time we sin, we sin against the first commandment. If we were to keep this commandment alone, we wouldn’t have to worry about anything else.

The most important thing you can pursue as a graduate is to pray for God’s help and power in building and maintaining a close, personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ. That’s the best way to keep Him first in your life—and the best way to avoid all other temptations to sin—which can lead us to disappointment, despair and spiritual disaster. Don’t let any person, task, pleasure or goal get before Him in your priorities, plans and affection! don’t even let your own understanding get in the way!

IN ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING YOU DO, PUT GOD FIRST AND HE WILL DIRECT YOU AND STRAIGHTEN OUT THE PATH IN FRONT OF YOU!

What a promise this is—to have God not just point out the path, but to remove all obstacles in that path!
